Why I Support Our Hearts Are Home
-
Our youngest daughter was twenty-seven when, after a wonderful day of coaching softball at Union University, she went to sleep and never woke up this side of Heaven. My husband and I were absolutely in shock; she was so healthy and so athletic! Our faith in God was not shaken, but we were so misunderstood at our church. Because every parent’s nightmare was now true for us, we were looked away from. I searched “child loss for Christians,” and that’s how we found Our Hearts Are Home. As I remember the first online gathering with OHAH, tears fill my eyes. We knew we had found “a sacred circle of the sorrowful.” Every grieving parent needs a community of love and faith! We have seen so many parents helped by OHAH, and we know there are so many others who may be isolated and alone that need this ministry of care.

My monthly giving to Our Hearts Are Home was an easy decision as a bereaved suicide loss mom. Our Hearts Are Home for me could be called My Heart has Hope. The moment my life changed drastically in 2019, there was such a limited number of options for parents like me. My grief and trauma needed connections with those traveling a similar road and OHAH provided that and so much more. I did not experience the stigma and shame that was now part of my story. It was a safe space filled with divine hope, lifelong connections, and the ability to talk about my child. I’m grateful for OHAH and look forward to seeing what they have planned for the future. Their conferences are such a wonderful part of their mission and any who attend leave truly blessed.

I have been a monthly supporter of Our Hearts Are Home for the past few years. I have also had the pleasure of attending the last two Fall Conferences in Indiana and watching God work in the lives of so many parents. Additionally, countless families have been impacted through OHAH book studies, gatherings, support groups, publications, podcast, and blog. As more heartbroken parents and other like-minded ministries have been attracted to Our Hearts Are Home, I have had the pleasure to feel a part of something very special that God is doing here. Being a financial partner in a small way has paid big dividends to me and my family as our faith continues to grow.
