He Will Not Let Go
January 27, 2023 — Laura House
“Hang on to Jesus.” It’s a true statement and one that as grieving parents, we strive to do. Jesus is the only One who can fully comfort our broken hearts. But for a newly bereaved parent, and honestly, for everyone living on earth, bereaved or not, there are just times that we feel helpless to even hang on.
For much of my life, when facing a storm, I told myself to “hang on to Jesus.” In my mind was the image of me hanging onto the side of a cliff, my fingers slipping little by little, as I desperately clung to Him. It was up to me to hang on.
But that’s not the truth of how it really is! Yes, we absolutely should “hang on to Jesus” by crying out to Him, leaning on Him, trusting Him. But as far as the strength to actually hang on, we don’t have to muster that! Even when our strength fails us, He is holding us and WILL NOT LET GO.
That is a very different picture. If I’m hanging over a cliff and my fingers slip, I’m not going to fall. He is there holding me.
When we are facing a storm in our lives, we can fully trust Him, knowing that He is holding us through every painful step. He never leaves. He never lets go. We can rest in Him. What an incredible truth!
You may already be familiar with the Laura Story song below, but it’s worth revisiting. My daughter recently shared this song with me along with the words of Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
What a promise! The Maker of the Universe loves each of us with an everlasting love, and is holding us through the pains of earthly life.
He Will Not Let Go - by Laura Story
It may take time, on this journey slow
What lies ahead, I'm not sure I know
But the hand that holds this flailing soul
He will not let go
There may be days, when I cannot breathe
There may be scars, that will stay with me
But the deepest stains, they will be washed clean
And He will not let go
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay
When grief has paralyzed my heart
His grip holds even tighter than the dark
I've heard it soft, this too shall pass
The joy will come, that the hurt won't last
So I will trust that within His grasp
I am not alone
For He will not let go
As you navigate today, one step at a time, remember that Jesus is holding you. You can trust Him. You can rest.
