The Darkest Day
April 7, 2023 — Laura House
The darkest day of my life was the day that Nathan died.
The world paused. Gut-wrenching pain, numbness, and an empty, sick feeling in the pit of my stomach came and stayed for a long time. A tsunami of questions smacked my brain and I was unable to think logically or efficiently.
In the very moment that I received the news, and many times since, I cried out, “Jesus help me trust you!”
Today is Good Friday, the darkest day in human history. It’s the day when Jesus Christ gave His life and was crucified to pay for the sins of every person who would ever live, including you and me.
Try to put yourself in the shoes of the disciples for a moment. After walking with Jesus for so long and even hearing Him talk about what was going to take place, they didn’t really understand. They couldn’t. Imagine the sorrow and confusion. Jesus had not yet risen and the Holy Spirit had not yet been given.
But then the unimaginable happened. Jesus rose again, just like He said He would. The death and resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in all of human history and the most important event that impacts you and me.
Because of Jesus…our sins, past and future, are forgiven, and nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Because of Jesus…we have the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who dwells with us. He guides, directs, teaches us, and comforts us. Through the sorrows and trials of earthly life, He is with us. He will never leave us. He is holding us.
Because of Jesus…we know what the future holds. And it’s good beyond our wildest imaginations.
Because of Jesus…we will spend eternity with Him and those we love who have gone ahead of us. We will not only see our children again, but we’ll spend forever together!
Take just a few moments today to read John 19-20.
The darkest day in the history of mankind led to the event that changes everything.
